Fitness Without a Gym

couple training.jpg

We’re usually good about getting our activity and meeting in the gym consistently, right? What happens when you are traveling, and the fitness options are sub-par, or your trainer is taking some time away?

A workout does not necessarily have to consist of lifting weights. Remember, most of fitness is moving your own ass.

Let’s explore what we can do outside of the gym.

Walk

Walking is baseline fitness, and we should dedicate even a slim 10 minutes to it DAILY. The benefits on stress, anxiety, blood pressure, cholesterol, bone density, cardiorespiratory fitness, and preventing blood clots are amazing. Walking is a serious tactical advantage.

Activities

Hit up a local hiking trail, and spot some birds. Some cities have fitness hikes where you walk to exercise stations. (I haven’t tried the latter yet, but I hear they’re fun)

When was the last time you went kayaking or swimming?

Plyometrics

Some “easy” plyo moves are squat jumps, box jumps, jump lunges, and clapping push ups. They are an excellent way to generate a great deal of power, burn energy quickly, and contribute to your strength gains.

Bodyweight exercise

If you train with me, then you already know we never underestimate the importance of our bodyweight arsenal. Push ups, squats, lunges, planks, A-frame push ups, and atomic sit-ups are STAPLES. They’re free, and require no equipment. It’s like stealing from the fitness store.

Did I miss anything? Hit me up, and I can include it in the next idea article.
